Greasex®Ultra is an alkaline lipase. It's the solution for optimum performance in fat dispersion and removal. It's ideal for degreasing cattle hides, providing a clean pelt with less residual hair. Your customers can apply Greasex® Ultra at soaking and/or liming. They can also boost its benefits by combining it with Novocor® SG or NUE™.

Greasex® Ultra is designed for further formulation.

Product features, details and benefits

A more sustainable process

This product is both biodegradable and renewable. That means it has a minimal environmental impact. It also reduces grease, COD and BOD loads in your effluent.

Easier to handle
This product is easier to handle than surfactants and can reduce or even eliminate them from your process.

Improves waterproofing effect
This product breaks down fat to make it more mobile. That means it can distribute itself evenly throughout the pelt, rather than gathering to prevent uniform distribution of waterproofing products. Even fat distribution also means that traditional degreasing with surfactants can be reduced or eliminated. This facilitates the production of waterproof and low fogging stock.

Improves dye uniformity in crust
Residual grease leads to dark patches in dyed leather. By improving degreasing, this product helps your customers avoid these. That results in improved color uniformity in dyeing operations.

Improves fogging test result
When volatile organic compounds in car upholstery leather evaporate then condense on the inside of the windscreen, they reduce the driver’s visibility. That's why leather destined for cars is put through the fogging test. Natural fats play a key role in the fogging test result. This product reduces residual natural fats to improve your fogging test result.

Improves wet blue stock grade
The red and pink stains that are such a problem in wet blue production are caused by natural fats decomposing and reacting with chrome. By reducing residual fats, this product helps your customers avoid these stains. That can help improve the stock grade of their wet blue.

Significantly reduces residual hair and surface grease
Natural fat is the biggest barrier to the penetration and dispersion of unhairing chemicals. That makes residual hair on hides a problem for many tanneries. This product targets and breaks down the sebaceous grease at the root of the hair. That gives the unhairing chemicals access. It's also very effective at breaking down the subcutaneous fat, which reduces surface grease on your hides.

How liapases improve degreasing and fat dispersion in tanneries

Lipases break down fat so it's easier to disperse. That results in a wide range of benefits in the final leather. Lipases also allow surfactant use to be reduced or even eliminated.

Degreasing ensures the removal of natural fats in hide. That reduces the risk of fatty spews in the resulting leather.

A range of circumstances affect fat levels. These include animal health, nutrition, environment and stress levels. All this makes fat a highly variable component. That variability, along with fat's rapid deposition and mobilization, makes it a challenge for tanneries.

Triglycerides are a key component of body fat. They're made up of one glycerol molecule and three fatty acid molecules. The molecules are held together by three ester bonds. Lipases break these bonds to form one glycerol molecule and three individual fatty acid molecules.  That makes the fats much easier to disperse, making degreasing more even.

Lipases can be used to disperse natural fat in all stages of leather production. These include soaking, liming/bating, pickling, wetblue, or natural crust/dyed crust. Because lipases can't degrade protein, they have many potential benefits and no risks. They can help tanneries reduce or even eliminate the need for surfactants and solvents in degreasing. Lipases also lead to more uniform dyeing and dye uptake and improve the leather's finish. They deliver a lower fogging-value and improve production of waterproof leathers. With lipases nubucks have a silkier touch.  In wool and sheepskin production, lipases may make dry cleaning unnecessary.

Tanneries can incorporate lipases to their process by pre-running the lipase, then adding the tenside. Non-ionic tensides are suitable for use with lipases
