Lowering costs and improving efficiency in lab propagation

Case study: Read how this brewer was able to produce beers closer to market; by using SmartBev™ frozen liquid yeast (FLY) - reducing logistical costs and complexity.

Challenge

Brewer faced cost challenges optimizing logistics

A brewing group wanted to optimize their logistics by producing certain beers closer to market.

That meant they needed a particular yeast strain to be available at all their breweries. But some of their breweries did not have facilities for laboratory propagation from slants. Instead, they used propagation facilities at an external supplier at high cost.

Solution

SmartBev™ FLY: Cost-effective, on-site solution

With Novonesis’ SmartBev™ frozen liquid yeasts (FLY), the breweries could inoculate their propagation tanks directly from FLY frozen products that were kept on-site in a freezer.

In this way they bypassed the need for expensive and time-consuming external propagation.
